Tea Research Foundation of Central Africa (TRFCA) is a regional non-profit and service provider to tea growers and other stakeholders in the Southern Africa region. The Foundation develops and disseminates new scientifically proven technologies through annual reports, newsletter articles, field days and technology exchange visits to tea estates. The objective of these services is to increase tea production of high quality in the region.
The Foundation started in 1934 and was registered in 1966 under Trustees Incorporation Ordinance 1962. While TRFCA has served Mozambique, Zambia, South Africa, Malawi and Zimbabwe in the past, it now serves the latter countries who are members of the Foundation.
TRFCA has its head office in Mimosa Research Station in Mulanje, Malawi. It has a regional office in Zimbabwe manned by one scientist. It has a Board of Management whose membership comprises tea growers. The current thrust of TRFCA is on plant genetic improvement, tea quality, agronomy, mechanical harvesting and plant propagation.
